What does a Single Sign On provide?
A "Single Sign On" (SSO) is a technical solution that allows users to authenticate once and access multiple applications without additional authentication input. SSO systems often use the user's main system data and enable them to log in to other systems without further input of username or password.
The educational portal automatically generates user accounts for all citizens who are involved with the school sector. Citizens can activate their own user account at any time. Depending on the configuration of each partner application, SSO may be used immediately or after explicit authorization to log in to the partner application. During registration, the application receives personal information from the educational portal based on the chosen Entity categories .
The benefits of using Single Sign On are:
-
Efficiency:
SSO-Systems save users time as they no longer have to authenticate themselves for each application individually, but only once in the main system. -
Variety:
Only one SSO integration is required from the application's perspective. However, the main system offers various login methods that are automatically available for the application (in case of the educational portal, these include ID Austria, Portal Austria, Federal Service Portal, BML Service Portal, Portal Tyrol and PH Connect) -
Security:
A single sign-on (SSO) system reduces the number of login credentials a user needs to store, which also means an improvement in security as the number of passwords required is reduced. -
Compatibility:
A single sign-on (SSO) system is compatible with various systems and applications, which also means a simplification of usage as users only need to log in through one system and are no longer subjected to any changes.
